What RBAW Does
For those wondering what RBAW does, it advocates for all Washington recreational boaters: sail, power, and paddle-craft, and does this at the state, county and local levels of government. TTPYC’s leadership saw the value of participating in RBAW and sees sustaining membership as one of many ways the club supports its members to ensure recreational boaters experience a positive boating future. One TTPYC member is appointed as the Club’s representative to RBAW and that person attends RBAW meetings and conferences and brings whatever concerns the Club may have to RBAW’s leadership.
RBAW interprets and assesses governmental bills, provides key witnesses, lobbies Washington State legislators, County officials, and Local jurisdiction decision makers to ensure laws and regulations remain and/or become favorable to recreational boaters in our state.
Another part of RBAW supports the acquisition and remediation of entire sites that benefit the recreational boating community. Sucia Island State Park, a gem of the San Juan Islands, was the first. Currently, Lakebay Marina on the Key Peninsula has been purchased and is undergoing remediation for an eventual turnover to the State Parks Department. This involves coordinating the appropriation of funds from government agencies and individual sponsors, and then negotiating and obtaining contractors to do the remediation work. This is a work in progress right now (2025).
